Don’t Lose Your Peace

Our Lord Jesus Christ has already procured peace for us on the Cross of Calvary and it is conveyed to our hearts and minds through the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22).

Colossians 3:15 NIV says to Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were calledto peace. And be thankful.

Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.”
The words translated “perfect peace” is shalom in the Hebrew.

In the Old Testament, shalom connotes “completeness, soundness, welfare, to be at ease spiritually and emotionally and to have a sense of internal well-being despite any adverse circumstances on the outside.”

Also, in the New Testament, the Greek word for peace is ‘eirene’ which connotes “to bring peace, to live in peace, to be undisturbed in all circumstances.” And this is promised to anyone whose mind is ‘stayed’ on God.

In Ephesians 2:14 we are told that Jesus Christ Himself is our peace…” Isaiah referred to Him as “The Prince of Peace”(Isaiah 9:6).

When we put in the work to consistently grow in our knowledge of the wisdom and abundance of God’s love for us, our minds and spirits develop a restful faith of His power and grace that is always available for us in Christ Jesus.
But when you lose your peace, you lose faith in the love of God for you.

Proverbs 3:5 says to “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”
God is inherently peaceful and Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace. Therefore, the nearer we move to Him, the more of His peace we experience.

In John 14:27, Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid”.

2 Peter 1:2 says, “May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord” (NLT).

Growing in the knowledge and understanding of the depths and riches of God’s love toward us opens you up to enjoying more of God’s peace in every season of our lives. Your mind and spirit begin to rest in God’s love, power and wisdom. (Ephesians 3:18–19; Romans 8:38–39).

It is important that we develop a lifestyle of making the Lord Jesus Christ our refuge. By doing so, we continually live in the peace of God. Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” The first step in experiencing the peace of God in times of storms in our lives to fix our minds on God.

You see, the devil wants you to lose your peace. He’ll always come after your faith and peace in God. And when you don’t guard your peace and know how to stay your mind on God, you will lose your peace. When you don’t constantly guard the gates into your life with God’s word, other things that seeks to suck out the peace of God in your heart will come in.

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

So, if you want to continue experiencing the peace of God in your mind and heart, you must learn to keep your focus on God alone. You must remember that God’s love is steadfast and that even when you are weak, He is faithful. You must endeavor to constantly fix your mind firmly on God’s love, faithfulness, goodness and unshakable promises. When you do that, you experience mighty peace of God that passes all understanding.

Now, to continue basking in this peace of God in your heart, you must endeavor to consistently seek God diligently, seek to know and to do His will at all times. Many people lose their peace as a result of living in perpetual sin and derailing from the will of God for their lives. Living constantly in the will of God for your life will keep you in God’s perfect peace even in the midst of any storm that may come your way.

See how Jesus Christ maintained His peace amidst the storm in Matthew 8:23-27;
“And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?”.

When you commit every department of your life to Jesus Christ, you have peace with God (Romans 5:1); and when your mind is continually ‘stayed’ on Him, you enjoy His peace regardless of any happenings around you.
If you must continue to enjoy this peace then, you must also guard with God’s word your mind, your heart and other gates into your life against fear or any corruption from the world. To have peace in the midst of any storm, you need to learn to always trust completely in God’s Word, don’t stay in fear, be assured of God’s goodness, His faithfulness and His unconditional love.

When the devil brings any form of storm to your life, know that God is able to turn it around to a mighty calm. Just like Jesus Christ did in Matthew 8:23-27 with His disciples. Because, He is also there with you and He promised to never leave you nor forsake you.

So, make sure you don’t focus on your “what ifs,” your worries, your fears – those will only distort your view of Jesus Christ. Don’t lose your peace because of any physical need that hasn’t manifested yet or because of strife, anger, unforgiveness or malice. Don’t give room for the devil to cause lose your peace over any of these. Instead, keep your focus only on who Jesus Christ is, His love for you, His word and on His everlasting unfailing promises. He is the Prince of Peace and He is right there with you to keep you in His perfect peace. Know that your victory is always guaranteed through Jesus Christ that loves you and keeps you!

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be keptblameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23.

And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. Acts 20:32.
