The Role of Persuasion in Faith: How to Trust God Will Come Through For You

In Romans 8:28, Apostle Paul encourages us, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Faith in God is largely dependent on your knowledge of God’s word. Romans 10:17: So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Hebrews 11:1 (AMPC) then gives a definition of faith. It says, …faith is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality….

When we’re praying and asking God for something, we don’t see it yet. But seeing with “the eye of faith” allows us to believe it before we ever see it come to pass. Faith enables us to believe things that may not make any sense to our natural minds.

Paul writes in 2 Timothy 1:12, “For I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” Persuasion is the process of convincing ourselves that God is who He says He is, and that He will do what He says He will do. It is the foundation of our faith, and it is what enables us to trust God even when circumstances seem impossible.
So, how can we cultivate a strong persuasion in our faith walk? Here are some practical tips:
  • Constantly reinforce your understanding of God’s word and His promises by studying God’s word regularly, meditating on it, and praying with it. By holding God’s Word in your heart, you’ll have a constant source of encouragement and strength, no matter where or what you’re facing.
  • Pray consistently. Prayer is a powerful tool for cultivating persuasion in our faith. By praying more in tongues, you gain a greater understanding of God’s will for your life. Jude 20 “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.”
  • Surround yourself with positive influences, such as other believers who inspire your faith in God and encourage you to keep standing on God’s word.
  • Take risks and step out in faith. Ephesians 6:16“Take a bold step of faith, and watch what God will do.”
  • Remember God’s faithfulness in the past.  Revelation 12:11 “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”
  • Hold fast to your confession of faith. Continue speaking in faith and agreeing with God’s word, no matter what the circumstances are. Hebrews 10:23 says, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful”.
  • Rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. “Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God.” Philippians 4:6. Expressing gratitude to God always is an act of faith.
What does the power of persuasion look like in action:
  • In Genesis 18, we read the story of Abraham and Sarah, who were promised a son by God despite their advanced age. Despite the impossibility of the situation, Abraham and Sarah chose to trust God and persuade themselves that He would come through for them. And God did, giving them a son named Isaac. Oftentimes, like Abraham, we don’t see the whole staircase, but we have just enough faith for the step that we’re on.
  • In 1 Samuel 17, we read the story of David and Goliath, who faced off in a battle that seemed impossible for David to win. Despite the odds, David chose to trust God and persuade himself that He would come through for him. And God did, giving David the victory over Goliath.

  • In Daniel 6, we read the story of Daniel, who was thrown into a lion’s den for refusing to worship the king’s idols. Despite the danger, Daniel had a strong conviction in his faith, and he trusted God to deliver him. And God did, sending an angel to shut the lions’ mouths and protect Daniel.

Taking a step of faith means trusting in God’s promises and character, even when the outcome is uncertain. It’s a walk of believing and holding on to hope that God will do what he has said he will do. So dear friend, I encourage you to keep taking steps of faith and see the power of God at work in your life.
What steps of faith might God be leading you to take? Are you really persuaded that God will come through for you?
And now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you an inheritance among all who are sanctified. Acts 20:32.
